NUMBER 1

– When I play all by myself,
I feel alone and sad.
– Number One,
why aren't you lonely,
How come you don't feel bad?

– I don't feel sad or lonely
Because I'm not alone,
My 9 amazing friends are there,
To make sure I'm not on my own!

"Why does Number One feel sad?"

One day, Number One went for a walk in the woods. Suddenly, he caught sight of a little hare and said to it: ‘No other animals have such long ears, so you are the only long-eared one.'

‘I'm not the only one,' the little hare replied. ‘I have lots of brothers.'

Number One walked on, spotted a squirrel and complimented her:

No one else in the woods has such a beautiful, fluffy tail as you, you are the only one.'

‘No, I'm not the only one,' the squirrel replied. ‘I've got plenty of squirrel friends.'

Then a bear cub came into the woods and started to sing: ‘I'm the strongest bear in the woods!'

‘You are the only one who's so strong,' Number One said admiringly.

‘Yes, I'm my mummy's only son,' the bear cub announced importantly. ‘Tomorrow it's my birthday, and I'll be one.'

‘Happy Birthday!' Number One cried. ‘I hope you'll be celebrating all by yourself and eating a birthday feast for one?'

‘I wouldn't like to celebrate all by myself,' the bear cub roared. ‘Who would I play hide and seek and sing songs with?'

Mummy bear heard her son howling and came to see what was wrong. She gave the bear cub a basket of raspberries and said warmly: ‘You won't be the only one if you invite guests to your birthday.'

The bear cub took a raspberry and walked through the woods, singing merrily:

To all the forest's little bears ...

"Why does Number Two look like?"

Number Two was walking along a path when suddenly she heard a sob coming from underneath a bush, ‘I..I..I'm lost.'

Number Two peered underneath the bush and caught sight of a big grey chick.

‘Who's your mummy?' Number Two asked the baby bird.

‘My mummy's the biggest, most beautiful bird. She looks like you,' the chick cheeped.

‘Don't cry; we'll find her,' Number Two replied.

She put the baby bird on her tail, and they went to look for its mummy.

Soon Number Two caught sight of a huge bird sitting in a field.

‘Have you lost a baby, big bird?' Number Two asked politely.

‘I'm not a bird; I'm an aeroplane. Aeroplanes don't have babies,' the aeroplane replied.

‘Cheep cheep, that's not my mummy. My mummy looks like you,' the baby bird declared.

All of a sudden, Number Two saw a white bird with a neck as long as hers, swooping down from the ...

"Who is Number Three friend with?"

Once upon a time there lived a jolly set of traffic lights . He stood at the crossroads and flashed his three colours : green, amber and red . But one day, all three lights went out.

This caused complete chaos ! Cars couldn't get through, because they all tried to go at once . Luckily, there was a little girl amongst the crowd of people waiting to cross . She knew that the set of traffic lights was friends with Number Three, and called him straight away :

‘Hello! Your friend is ill; he needs your help at once ! '

Number Three arrived straight away, bringing with him three tasty triangular biscuits. He gave his friend the biscuits, and the traffic lights started working again.

It turned out the set of traffic lights had been very hungry, and that's why he'd stopped working.

From then on, Number Three visited ...
